Special fields

Custom fields are additional pieces of data that can be attached to individual assets in the Storage. Any custom field consists of a name and value. Values can contain arbitrary information of different types: text, numbers, prices, or dates.

To manage additional information on devices switch to the last tab of the program and select one of the two modes: Common or Special fields.

Common fields

This mode allows managing the fields that can be present on all devices in the network tree.

When creating or editing categories in Common Fields, all groups are distributed and displayed on all devices. You can assign its own value for each device in any selected category.

The Common fields are divided into 5 types: String, Numeric, Date, Price, and Logical.

You can select several nodes in the Network tree to change the values of their common field(s) simultaneously. If multiple nodes are selected and their values for the same common field are different, a Different values label will appear in place of the value. To replace these values with the same value, click this label and set a new, common value.

When selecting several devices, only the common fields are displayed because the custom fields sets may vary.

SNMP fields

In the common fields mode, you can create a special SNMP field. To display it in the Add menu, at least one SNMP device should be selected in the network tree.

SNMP fields support the next types: String, Numeric, and Logical. The specified type determines the display format and comparison of values in the Viewer&Reports mode. Also, the selected field types can be available and serve as conditions for filtering in the table reports constructor.

When adding fields, a window will be opened that allows adding an OID string number and field name.

If the name was not entered manually, then the OID name will be automatically encrypted from the downloaded to TNI MIB-files (adding a custom MIB file is available in Options SNMP ).

If the full SNMP information is collected from your network devices (the “Enable full SNMP scan” option is activated in Options SNMP ), then the data collected will be automatically placed in the created SNMP fields regarding the OID specified.

You can also quickly create SNMP fields by selecting the SNMP Tree in the sidebar in the Viewer&Reports mode, using the context menu on the report elements.

Special fields

The custom fields mode allows adding unique information for each type of asset. When creating or editing categories in Custom Fields, all groups, categories, and all manual data entered are only displayed on the selected assets in the network tree.

With this mode, you can attach any file to the asset.

Managing custom fields

To create a new special field or a folder for fields, click Add.

If you hover the mouse cursor over any field or folder of fields, thebutton to delete the item appears on the right.

To rename a field or folder, double-click its name.

You can change the order of fields and folders, as well as move items between groups, by dragging them using the mouse. In the common fields mode, you can group categories indefinitely.

When you add a Price field in the Custom fields, the currency will be selected automatically from a list (US dollar by default). To change to another currency or to be able to quickly cycle between the currencies, use the drop-down menu next to it and select Setup quicklist, or go to Options General . If more than one currency is in your quicklist, TNI will pick the first in the list (by alphabet).

Custom fields in the reports

In Common reports, you can include all the custom fields in a report by selecting the Custom information category. The report will show both Common and Custom fields of assets.

If necessary, you can edit a field by hovering the cursor over the field, the TNI switches to the Common fields edit mode automatically.

You can also add any individual common field as a table report column when creating a custom template. For this, select the Custom fields category while creating the custom template and choose any item from the options provided.
