Manual asset merging

In most cases, the device distinction mechanism in TNI correctly detects and merges assets and snapshots when they are imported or added to the Storage. However, sometimes you may need to manually combine several devices.

This ability becomes available when several assets are selected in the network tree.

To merge the assets, follow these steps:

  1. Select the assets that you want to merge in the network tree and open the context menu.
  2. From the menu, select the Merge assets option.
  3. Select which asset will be the main one from the submenu. The main  asset (parent) will keep all the information that was manually added for it: notes, special fields, barcodes, license records, etc.
Attention!

Merging will remove any manually added information from the child asset(s).

The Merge assets option will not be available if a group is selected.

To be able to merge assets, you need to make sure that they are all of the same type (for example, only Windows devices or devices with Linux are selected). If the assets you want to combine were added to the network map earlier, then after manual merging, all nodes will be replaced with the device selected as the main one. The connections on the map will be saved.

Unscanned placeholders can be merged with devices of any type.

Custom assets cannot be merged with each other or with other types of devices.
