Probes description

ICMP ping

ICMP ping probe allows to check if there is a host in the netwrok using ICMP-ping scanning method.

You can:

  • Enter the number of retries into the field Retry count;
  • Set packet time to live in the field TTL (Time To Live);
  • Set the scanning packet size (in bytes) in the field Packet size.

TCP/IP

TCP/IP probe allows checking the availability of any TCP port.

Choose number of TCP port to be checked in the dropdown list Server port or enter it manually. If remote port is opened, monitor will change its color to green. Otherwise to red. Probe errors will bring monitor to black state.

HTTP

HTTP probe allows to check content of the remote HTML- page.

Enter the adress of HTML-page to be checked into the field Request URL. The following string format is used:

[http: //][example.com][:port]/[dir[/...]][index.html]

Thus the only mandatory element is the forward slash specifying the site root. Prefix "http: //" is optional. Site (domain) name is also optional. If the name is not specified, then the name from device properties is used. If the name is specified, it is used only in the Host field of the GET-request, but it is not used for IP resolution. If the port is not specified, default port is used (80). The path and/or HTML-page name may be specified after the slash. Examples:

http: //www.example.com/dir1/dir2/page.html
example.com:8080/
/folder/index.php

Enter the lines to be checked for presence into the multi-line text field. You can also set probe rules:

  • Contains or Does not contain, the entered lines are present or absent in HTML-page respectively.
  • Any or All, there is at least one of the entered lines or all at once in HTML-page.

If the selected conditions are true, monitor will change its state to green. Otherwise into red state. Probe errors will bring monitor to black state.

FTP

FTP probe allows to check FTP-server performance.

Enter User name and the Password to be used at authorization in FTP-server into the fields User and Password respectively.

If the selected conditions are true, monitor will change its state to green. Otherwise into red state. Probe errors will bring monitor to black state.

SMTP, POP3, IMAP and Telnet

SMTP, POP3, IMAP and Telnet probes allow to check uptime of the appropriate servers.

If the appropriate server works fine, monitor will change its state to green. Otherwise to red state. Probe errors will bring monitor to black state.

Event log

Event log probe allows to check if there is this or that record (its type, category, number and content) in Windows event log both in local and remote computers.

You can:

  • Choose from the dropdown list Journal or enter manually the event journal name where search should be made.
  • Indicate in the field Source the name of application which added the searched record.
  • Set the searched record identifier in the field Id and its category in the field Category (value "0" implies that records are not filtered by this criterion).
  • Choose message type: Error, Information, Warning, Audit success, Audit failure, Success from the dropdown list Event type. Choose All in order to filter it by type.

If you need to find specific string in the record text, enter it (or its part) into the field Find specific string.
Important note! Records will be filtered only by set criteria.
If at least one record is found in the event log, the monitor will change its status into green, otherwise into red.

Service status

Service status probe allows to check status of this or that Windows service both in local and remote computers.

Choose from the dropdown list Service name the name of service to be checked or enter it manually. Important note! Services list is based on the available services of certain computer.
Choose necessary state: Is running, Is paused, Is stopped, Other from the dropdown list State.
If real status of the checked service corresponds to the selected one, the monitor will change its state into green, otherwise into red.

Registry state

Registry state probe allows checking for presence in the registry of this or that key, its value using convenient rules both in local and remote computers.

Choose the dropdown list Key registry section where you would like to work. Then set path to the parameter (section) and parameter name in the obligatory fields Subkey and Field respectively. Example of section name: "\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run".
In the field Enter data to find here you can sest text value to be used by certain rules (see below). To enter binary data use hexademical notation "0x". For example: "0xABC123".

Choose one of the probe rules in the dropdown list rule:

  • Exists: set parameter exists.
  • Does not exist: set parameter does Does not exist.
  • Equal: parameter value exactly equals to the one entered into the field.
  • Not equal: opposite case to the previous rule.
  • Contain any of words: parameter value contains at least one of the words entered into the text field.
  • Contain all words: parameter value contains each and all words.

If chosen probe rule turns out to be true, the monitor will automatically change its state into green, otherwise into red.

System performance

System performance allows to track system performance by several parameters.

Select from a drop-down list Parameter one of five system performance parameters: CPU load percentage, Used physical memory percentag e, Used virtual memory percentage, Number of processes, Number of users.
Select from a drop-down list one of four probe conditions: >=, <=, =, <> (not equal). And enter a number for probe condtion executing.
In the Monitor color selector choose color (state): green or red the monitor will change to if the selected rule is true.

File existence

File existence probe allows checking existence of this or that file both in local and remote computers.

Enter the file name into the field File name (you can set path to file manually or use dialog box pressing file select icon). To select file on the remote computer use standard name format NetBIOS.
Choose Exists in the dropdown list, if you need to check if entered file exists, or Does not exist in opposite case.
In the Monitor color selector choose color (state): green or red the monitor will change to if the selected rule is true.

File size

File size probe allows checking size of this or that file both in local and remote computers.

Enter file name into the field File name (you can manually set path to file or use dialog box pressing file select icon). To select file on the remote computer use standard name format NetBIOS.

Two independent rules for file size probe are available:

  • Is more than: file size is more than set one.
  • Is less than: file size is less than set one.

In the Monitor color selector choose color (state): green or red the monitor will change to if the selected rule is true.

File count

File count probe allows to check number of files and folders in certain directory both in local and remote computers.

Enter the directory path into the field Directory (you can manually set path to directory or use dialog box pressing directory select icon). To select directory on the remote computer use standard directory name format NetBIOS.

Choose from the dropdown list one of the following rules:

  • Less than: file count is less than set one.
  • More than: file count is more than set one.
  • Equals to: file count exactly equals to set value.
  • Does not equal to: opposite case to the previous rule.

Check Look for files in subfolders, to include files in subfolders. If Count subfolders is checked, the subfolders will be included at counting.
In the Monitor color selector choose color (state): green or red the monitor will change to if the selected rule is true.

File compare

File compare probe allows comparing two files by size and content both in local and remote computers.

Enter file names into the fields First file and Second file (you can set path to file manually or use dialog box pressing file select icon). To select directory on the remote computer use standard directory name format NetBIOS.

Choose from the dropdown list Equal, if you need to check if these two files are equal, or Not equal in opposite case. Check Compare content of files, if you need also to compare content of two files.
In the Monitor color selector choose color (state): green or red the monitor will change to if the selected rule is true.

Disk space

Disk space probe allows to check free and occupied space volume in certain media both in local and remote computers.

Set path to disk in the field Volume (you can manually set path or use dialog box pressing directory select icon). To select disk or directory on the remote computer use standard name format NetBIOS.

Choose Amount of free space is less than from the dropdown list, if you need to check free disk space volume. Choose Amount of used space is more than to check occupied space volume.
In the Monitor color selector choose color (state): green or red the monitor will change to if the selected rule is true.

File CRC32

File CRC32 allows to check changes in file CRC32 both on local and remote computers.

Enter file name into the field File name (you can manually set path to file). To select file on the remote computer use standard name format NetBIOS.

Three independent rules are available for file CRC32 probe:

  • Changes: file CRC32 has changed.
  • Equals: file CRC32 equals...
  • Does not equal: file CRC32 does not equal...

If you choose Equals or Does not equal rules it is necessary to enter CRC32 template of the file in hexademical format.
In the Monitor color selector choose color (state): green or red the monitor will change to if the selected rule is true.

File content

File content probe allows to check file content both on local and remote computers.

Enter file name into the field File name (you can manually set path to file). To select file on the remote computer use standard name format NetBIOS.

There are three independent rules for file content probe:

  • Matches N times: file content contains user-set string template N times.
  • Matches more than N times: file content contains user-set string template more than N times.
  • Matches less than N times: file content contains user-set string template less than N times.

It is possible to enter your own string into String template to check the content or you can use regular expressions (set Use regular expressions and choose regular expressions in the apppropriate menu).
In the Monitor color selector choose color (state): green or red the monitor will change to if the selected rule is true.
