Monitoring journal

As the main purpose of the program is network monitoring with probes and actions execution it is quite necessary to have a mechanism for tracking these processes during program runtime.

Probe journalizing

Total Network Monitor tracks all working monitors and records into the monitoring log necessary information about an executed probe. Any color (state) change of the monitor is taken down in All monitors log as follows:

All monitors log is divided into following columns:

  • Time stamp: date and time of color (state) change;
  • Monitor event: monitor data including its name, device name where it was created, device IP address and port which is the probe parameter (if port equals 0, it is not deployed as a parameter);
  • Result: text description of the monitor probe result including monitor color (state) and detailed description of the probe result.

The selected monitor log contains information about executed probes of certain monitor:

Statistics and Activity diagram

To process journalizing data usually statistics tools are deployed. Statistics includes run time and time of the selected monitor last probe, total number and number of green, red and black states of the monitor.

Activity diagram is a particular tool graphically showing the results of the selected monitor probe. The diagram consists of one monitor color (state) areas, by selecting area it is possible to find out in what period of time the monitor has been in a certain state.

Actions journalizing

Total Network Monitor records each executed actions into Actions log:

Actions log is divided into following columns:

  • Time stamp: date and time of color (state) change;
  • Action event: action data including its name and monitor name;
  • Result: text description of the executed action.
