Logon script scan

This type of scan uses TNI Windows agent to automatically scan any Windows computer as it logs on to domain. This is achieved by adding a specific command line to the user's domain logon script with a call to previously exported agent executable. Whenever the script is run, the agent is fired up on the remote asset. It generates a data file and places it to the specified directory. The resulting collection of data files can then be imported to TNI storage either by hand or automatically.

Setting up the logon script scanning

Activate the Scanner tab and click Set up logon script scan button on the sidebar (or open the Options window and go to Logon script page).

  • Use Export standalone scanner... button to place a copy of TNI Windows agent (tniwinagent.exe) to a shared folder of your choice. Make sure that the assets that are to be scanned have read access to the folder you choose.
  • Path to agent — holds the path to the agent executable.
  • Specify the separate folder that will contain the data files generated by agents in the Save path field. This folder should be accessible for writing from the remote assets.
  • You can set up Delay before scan start in order to prevent performance issues caused by starting the scan process too early in an OS session.
  • Overwrite existing files — this will replace the older versions of data files with the newer ones in whenever an asset is scanned several times in a row.

Modifying the above parameters generates a command line for the logon script. You may Copy the command and paste it to the logon script manually, or let the program do it for you by clicking Add the command to a script button.

A detailed step-by-step guide is available in the FAQ.

Automatically importing new data files

To automatically import data generated by logon script scan, switch to the Auto-importoptions page and specify the folder that you used for Save path in logon script as Import data path. This way, your storage will always contain the most recent configuration data from each computer in your domain. See Data import section to find out more about the automatic import feature and it's parameters.
